Marion County

If you are a dental hygienist interested in volunteering, networking, making new friends, and supporting the integrity of your profession, we extend an open invitation for you to come check us out. Read on for more information or feel free to contact any one of our officers listed near the bottom of this page.

Please join us! It is our end of the year celebration honoring our co-presidents Linda Mann and Beth Finnson! Let's celebrate and recognize their contribution and commitment to our local component.

Date: Tuesday, May 27th  (We will not be meeting on Wednesday the 21st at CCC for our usual meeting and CE.)

Time:  6:30 p.m.

Location:  Gamberitti's Italian Restaurant
                  Pringle Park Plaza
                  325 High St. SE, Salem

As their co-presidency comes to an end, we come to the realization that we are in need of a new president (or co-presidents) for the MPY DHA component.  Beth Finnson has dutifully served as our Trustee, but are seeking to fill that position for the upcoming year as well. If you are interested in either of these positions, and would like to know more about the duties please ask.

Additionally, we will discuss topics for our CE Classes for next year. We really want to see more of our members and local colleagues in the flesh, and hear from you how we can best serve you! We hope you can join us.

Please RSVP by Sunday, May 25th so that table reservations may be made ahead of time.

Angie Bauer, RDH
MPY DHA Secretary

If you are not on our e-mail list and would like to receive updates and reminders about meetings please contact Sharon Crawford

February is Children's Dental Health Month

and We Love to Volunteer at the Salem Boys & Girls Club

Thank you, Thank you, thank you to each of you for your incredible work and dedication!

From the time the first steps were taken to create the dental clinic at the Boys and Girls Club, members of MPYDHA have been involved. Area dental hygienists have provided input into the design and function of the clinic. It has taken several years for this clinic to come to fruition and it has finally happened. Not only has MPY donated money to make this clinic happen but members have also volunteered their time for screening and treatment days. MPY challenges all of you to take at least one day out of your busy life to volunteer at this clinic. If you are available on a specific date to volunteer, please contact Jodi Loper, CDA, EFDA, Health Services Coordinator at 503-581-7383 or Email:

Along with the Boys and Girls club there are several volunteering opportunities for you. Give Kids a Smile Day, The Annual Amity Elementary School Dental Clinic and the Medical Teams International Dental Van. The Amity Dental Clinic was held this year on February 23rd. Every year more and more children are treated at this event. Last year there was almost $5000 worth of care done. This year more than $6000. One of our own members Michelle Aldrich, who is also a dentist in West Salem, created and keeps this annual event going. MPY actually won a National ADHA Community Outreach Award for this clinic. This year we took education to the classrooms while treatment (sealants, prophy’s, fluoride treatment etc…) was provided on the dental van.
We've had nothing but positive feedback from anyone who has ever volunteered on any of the dental van outings. Look for this and other opportunities coming up in the next year. The community needs you and your skills!! For more information on dates and times please contact Sharon Crawford, MPY’s Volunteer Coordinator or Denny Sanders, Mobile Dental Unit Manager for Medical Teams International. Thank You!!

MPY has always been dedicated to helping new graduates through the transition from student to professional. I think we can all remember how scary it was to begin a new career, so full of questions and unsure on how to reach out and ask for help. Come to any of the MPY Dental Hygiene meetings to meet other hygienist in the area. You will be surrounded by the support and resources you need.

Chelsea Montgomery will be working hard this year to make sure we have yummy things to munch on during meetings and events. Please adopt a date to help her out when she passes around a sign up sheet. Don’t worry if you forget what month you signed up for, she will be giving you a reminder call or e-mail. Thanks!
