President's Message

President's Message

What an exciting time for dental hygiene.  This year we celebrate 100 years of being a profession.  We are also excited to be partners again with the Oregon Dental Association for this annual event.  As I reflect upon the changes our profession has undergone I am amazed at the hard work and dedication of all the women and men that have brought us to where we are now professionally; especially here in Oregon.   Our state association is constantly referred to as being forward thinking in regards to expanding our scope of practice, our involvement with other professional organizations and hiring an association management company.

We wouldn’t be able to accomplish these tasks without the strength and passion of our previous leaders.  I am honored to follow in their footsteps.

We have accomplished so much because of dedicated individuals working together as a team.  Our progress hasn’t been easy; there have been challenges and obstacles that needed to be addressed.  Because of team work and persistence these road blocks were removed and progress was made.  This team work will not change.  Your board and councils will continue to work hard despite bumps in the road.  We will keep looking for the avenues to tackle the issues that are facing you in your professional life.

Every team needs to have a cheering section.  We need you to support and cheer us on.  There will be times when the going is rough and we will need your encouragement.  There will be times when we want to celebrate our accomplishments and we will need you there to help celebrate.

You can cheer us on by going to your component meetings and find out from your trustee what is happening around the state.  Attend the state meetings in the spring and fall to meet and talk with your elected officers.  For those of you registered for the Oregon Dental Conference be sure to visit the ODHA table and participate in our CE courses with Christina Hovliaras, RDH, BS, MBA, CDE

When we get together there is just a buzz that starts to happen and you become re-energized.  One of my favorite quotes from Kenny Ausubel states “Each of us has a spark of life inside us, and our highest endeavor ought to be to set off that spark in one another.”  I look forward to the possibilities that this year will bring.  We have an amazing team and a bright future.  I can’t wait to see the sparks fly when we get together.
